Barrier Group, the international coatings specialist based in Wallsend, has secured a contract from OGN Group that has led to the creation of more than 20 local jobs.
The project is part of the work required on the EnQuest Producer, a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel, which is currently at OGN’s Hadrian Yard, Wallsend.
As part of the project Barrier is delivering specialist coating works, access scaffolding works, including the erection of some 1,500 tonnes of scaffolding and also specialist insulation and architectural services.
Working on the project are 80 Barrier personnel, 30 percent of which have been taken on as a direct consequence of winning this new contract.
OGN Group secured the EnQuest Producer contract to deliver finishing and commissioning works on the vessel prior to its deployment to the North Sea.
The project has created many direct project jobs and also had a positive impact on the local supply chain with companies including Barrier.
Formed in 1975, Barrier Group is a leading specialist in the field of corrosion and fire protection in offshore, petrochemical and construction projects. The company employs 250 at its base in Willington Quay, Wallsend and on client sites across the UK and abroad.
Robert Bowles, Managing Director of Barrier, said: “Securing this project is proof positive of the wider benefits to the North East supply chain when a company such as OGN wins a significant and prestigious contract. This region has an excellent supply chain, which we are proud to be part of, which OGN can rely on to deliver high quality products and services.
“The impact of bringing the EnQuest Producer to the region is tremendous, particularly in terms of enabling the supply chain to create new employment opportunities and I am proud that it has allowed Barrier to increase the size of our workforce.”
