The rapid growth of the LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) and LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) markets has required the construction or upgrading of numerous terminals across the world.
The risk to safety and protection of customers’ assets – storage tanks, vessels, pipework – presents a very different challenge and Barrier Fire Protection has a long history in providing the appropriate solution.
It was a key contractor, for example, in one of the UK’s biggest projects of its kind: the 6,500 tonne Buzzard Production Sweetening (PS) deck and bridge structures for the Heerema Fabrication Group.
Barrier Fire Protection provides a thermal barrier on top of fire proofing to ensure it is not compromised in the event of an incident involving cryogenic (super-cooled) liquid.
Conversely, where tanks are storing LNG at a temperature range of between -120 and -170°C, there is a risk of damage to the passive fire protection production in contact with the steel surface. In these circumstances, a thermal barrier is fitted underneath the fire proofing.
